In emergency situations turn to your print Yellow Pages
just as this blogger did:
Well, last night the power went out just before 7:00, and I used our phone book for the first time in years
Now just image the many other things he’s going to find in that Yellow Pages…

One person buys one thing from a phone book after years of no use?
The thousands of local advertisers who’ve been paying to put books on his doorstep every year must be pleased?

Ed:
This is a great example of why you just don’t get it, or have a true understanding of how people shop which is why print Yellow Pages continue to the be the best ROI medium for many small businesses.
Case in point I am in the process of buying replacement windows. It’s not something I do every year or even every 5 years. But when I was ready to buy I went to the book. Why? Because I’m not a window expert. There were several companies I found that had ads I was not familiar with. The size of the ad has provided some guidance as to the company’s viability. Did I also then “browse” the net? Of course. But when it came to making that final buying decision, the book was critical in pointing me in the right direction for a local buyoing decision.
So you had better believe those advertisers in that print Yellow Pages book got my attention. But of course I doubt I will be back looking at that heading for another 5+ years. However, I’m not the only one shopping for windows at this time too, or next week, or next month, or next year…..

I’ve owned a house for almost 10 years. When I needed to replace my windows I used Angie’s List. I’m not a windows expert but relying on the aggregate opinions of thousands of other people in my local area, I was able to determine who got the best deal for their money. Customers rate the price, service, satisfaction, courtesy and many other attributes of many types of businesses.
I pay money to subscribe to the Angie’s List web site because unsolicited opinions of a company’s customer base is more accurate than the page real estate in a business phone directory.

Glad it worked for you online, but I’m a little skeptical about opinions I read online. Maybe its force of habit after having stayed in those 5-star ratings on hotels that end up being 2-star dives….

KenC, are you skeptical of your own opinions when written online?
How would the yellow pages help you with the hotel issue you’ve described?

Once again Ed you have mastered the fine art of taking apples and oranges, mixing them together, and then called it your fruit cake.
