Benefits of a Yellow Pages in Your Vehicle
Read a great post by a consumer (“mom_at_home”) who noted the convenience of carrying a print Yellow Pages in her busy vehicle — here is the link: http://momandkidsathome.blogspot.com/2008/08/old-phonebook-shuffle.html
I’m like her — have one in the car at all times and it has been a life-saver.

You should give 800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411) a try. You tell it the city and business you’re looking for and it automatically looks it up, gives you the location, and will connect you. All for free.
It works across the entire country and is always up to date.
Since this is an Environmental Forum, it’s worth pointing out that it’s much greener to use GOOG-411 than carry around a heavy phone book in your car all the time.

Again you totally missed the point. First, it is just silly for you to suggest a one or two pound book in a half ton vehicle is an issue. If it leads to less driving around, which is the purpose for carrying it around to begin with, heck yes, that would be greener.
And when you call the 411 service you mentioned, where did they get the information from?? I guess I’m suppose to just trust what Google or whoever is providing? The book gives you some perspective on who the business is and what they do, 411 is wonderful if I know exactly who I want.

A 2 lbs, 15,000 miles/yr, and 20MPG, it costs around 1/2 of a gallon of gas, so ~$2 to drive around a phone book each year.
I’d encourage you to give Google’s 411 service a try. Arguing that Google is a service people don’t trust is going to be a tough fight. If you know exactly who you want, it works REALLY well. Just ask for the company by name.
As far as data trust goes, if you trust the Yellow Pages, you could probably trust GOOG-411 since that’s one of the sources used for business information.
